Via its Group companies, HOCHTIEF subsidiary Leighton has secured new contracts worth approximately EUR 568 million: Leighton Asia and John Holland will take on works on the eastern part of the South Island Line, a railway on Hong Kong Island. The project has a total volume of a good EUR 408 million (AUD 547 million). At the beginning of the month, John Holland won a further contract for the Gorgon project on Barrow Island, Australia. The company will construct permanent buildings for more than EUR 134 million (AUD 180 million) for the gas facility. In addition, Leighton Contractors has recently been commissioned to construct a cooling pond and a residue storage area at the Pinjarra Refinery in Western Australia for a good EUR 25 million (AUD 33.8 million).

For the seven-kilometer-long railway link, the Leighton companies are to construct, among others, a railway bridge, more than one kilometer of tunnel, two elevated and two underground stations as well as two kilometers of viaduct. The works will start this month and are expected to be completed in 2015. The permanent buildings John Holland will construct from the end of 2011 on Barrow Island include, for example, a workshop, laboratory buildings, a fire station and the operations center. Completion is scheduled for 2013. The refinery project has already started and is expected to be finalized by June 2012.
