Bombardier Transportation, in consortium with Site S.p.A., has won a second major order in Algeria, to deliver the BOMBARDIER* INTERFLO* 250 ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) Level 1 solution for the new Saida-Moulay Slissen line. The contract, with a value for Bombardier of 12 million euro ($15 million US) and a total value of 19 million euro ($24 million US) is awarded by Astaldi S.p.A. (an Italian leader in civil works) acting as general contractor for the project, which will be delivered to the Algerian State Railways.

Bombardier, leading the consortium, will be responsible for the design and supply of the signalling system for the construction of the 120 km line. The solution will also include the latest generation Release 4 BOMBARDIER EBI Lock 950 computer-based interlocking (CBI) system, the EBI Screen central traffic control centre, the EBI Switch 500 point machines and EBI Track 2000 train detection system.

This contract consolidates Bombardier’s presence in Algeria, where the company is already delivering the first electronic interlocking system on the Tabia-Mecheria line for the same customer. This is also the first ERTMS contract for Bombardier in Africa, where its recently inaugurated Gautrain project has proven to be a true success.

Anders Lindberg, President, Rail Control Solutions, Bombardier Transportation, said: “This ERTMS milestone for Bombardier demonstrates, yet again, the success of our technology. We look forward to working with the customer on this new line and continuing to contribute to rail development in Algeria and in Africa.”

Pier Prina Mello, Regional Sales Executive Middle East & North Africa, Bombardier Transportation, added: “This second contract in Algeria is very important for our strategy to establish a permanent presence of Bombardier Transportation in the entire Middle East and North Africa region”.
