A stunning new timelapse video has been released capturing the extent of upgrade work completed by Network Rail’s ‘orange army’ to prepare the Severn Tunnel for electrification.

The footage features the installation of over eight miles of conductor rail in the 130-year-old tunnel which took place during a six week closure (12 September to 21 October) as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan to provide a bigger and better railway for passengers.

An extensive amount of work was also completed to lower the track in the Patchway Tunnels in South to Gloucestershire to accommodate the electrification equipment that will power the new fleet of electric trains, which will result in more seats, faster and more reliable journeys for passengers.
