On November 15 in Budapest, Hungary, under the XXII Plenary Meeting of the International Association “Coordinating Council on Transsiberian Transportation”, Russian Railways and Hungarian State Railways signed a memorandum of cooperation. The document was signed by the First Vice-President of Russian Railways Alexander Misharin and General Director of Hungarian State Railways Ilona David.Cooperation between Russian and Hungarian railway administrations will be focused on increasing the efficiency of the existing rail network of the Russian Federation and Hungary, improving the competitiveness of rail transport over other modes of transport, and working together in applying requirements for 1435- and 1520-mm-rail systems in order to ensure their effective interaction.

The most important areas of cooperation include improving the safety and operation of railway transportation, minimizing environmental impacts, and improving the tariff policy and information systems and etc.
