Carillion has been selected by Network Rail as one the contractors to deliver infrastructure services under a £750 million Multi Asset Framework Agreement. Carillion expects to deliver services for 19 projects worth some £250 million in the “London North Eastern” area, which includes a number of key routes, including the East Coast Mainline between London and the Scottish border and the Midland Mainline.

Carillion will provide a wide range of services including design, delivery, testing and commissioning for these projects, which include plans to improve line speed between London and Sheffield, to upgrade track and permanent way for longer, wider and taller freight trains, to prepare for the Intercity Express Project and to create a new entrance for Leeds Station.

Design work has commenced and all projects are expected to be completed by 2016.

Commenting on the new framework, Carillion’s Chief Operating Officer, Richard Howson, said: “Rail infrastructure services continue to be an important market sector for Carillion and we are delighted to have been selected by Network Rail as one of its delivery partners for this major investment programme to upgrade the UK rail network.”
