The Russian rail operator RZD has placed an order for another eight “Velaro RUS” high-speed trains plus a maintenance contract extending over 30 years. The order is worth a total of about EUR600 million. The trains will be built at the Siemens Krefeld plant and delivery is due to commence in January 2014. “We’re very pleased that RZD is once again counting on Siemens to expand its high-speed rail services,” said Siemens CEO Peter Loescher, who, together with RZD President Vladimir Yakunin, today signed the corresponding agreements. Siemens is to install the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 on the rail link between Chitila and Crivina in Romania. Romanian Railways (CFR: Cãile Ferate Române) has placed the order with a consortium made up of Siemens, Thales and Nokia Siemens Networks. The deal is worth around 35 million Euros. Commissioning of the first ETCS Level 2 line in Romania is planned for 2014.

The HLE 18 multi-system locomotive from the Siemens Eurosprinter family has just received homologation for Belgium.

From Antwerp to Genoa: The Siemens Eurosprinter ES64F4 locomotive passed homologation for Belgium and is ready for revenue service in six European countries: Austria, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland - and now also in Belgium.

Österreichische Bundesbahnen Infrastruktur AG, the Austrian railway infrastructure company, has awarded an order to Siemens Mobility and Logistics to equip the Nordbahn route between Vienna and Břeclav (Czech Republic) with the European Train Control System (ETCS). An ETCS Level 2 of the Trainguard 200 RBC type will be installed along the 87 km rail link and eleven stations will also be equipped. The overall volume amounts to some 7 million Euros. Commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2013. The scope of the contract also includes an option for equipping the Central Station in Vienna for around 4.5 million Euros. (more…)

Siemens Mobility has received an order from the Czech railway company Ceske Drahy (CD) for the delivery of 16 seven-car Railjet trains. This order involves the takeover of an option that was originally intended for Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). Czech Railways plans to use these Siemens-built intercity trains to modernize its fleet. The Railjets will be deployed on the national mainline between Prague and Brno and in cross-border traffic to Austria, Germany, Hungary and Slovakia. Delivery of the trains is expected to start in 2013. All 16 Railjets are due to be delivered to Czech Railways by 2014.

Siemens is to equip 9,000 of the total 11,000 automatic train control elements in the route network of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) with the European Train Control System (ETCS) type Trainguard 100. The order is worth a total value of around 125 million euros. The contract covers the conversion of the existing train control system to ETCS Level 1 Limited Supervision and the maintenance of the existing signaling system for 25 years. The system will be delivered in eight geographically defined implementation phases in the period between 2012 and 2017.

Banedanmark, the Danish railway infrastructure developer and operator, has placed a contract with Siemens for the modernization of the complete signaling system of the Copenhagen commuter rail (“S-Bane”) network. This contract is worth 252 million euros, making it the biggest rail automation order that Siemens has ever received. It calls for the supply and installation of the fully automatic Trainguard MT type train control system, Sicas type electronic interlockings, and switch machines. The equipment package also includes a brand-new operations control center. The first of six construction phases equipped with the new signaling system is scheduled to go into operation already before the end of 2014. The contract also includes maintenance services for 25 years.

The strategically important railway line from Budapest-Kelenföld to Székesfehérvar is to be equipped with train protection systems from Siemens. Nemezeti Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. (NIF), the Hungarian state-run company for infrastructure development, has awarded Siemens an order worth 53 million euros to supply two electronic Simis interlockings, an Iltis remote control system, and 15 level crossings. The Trainguard 200 RBC European Train Control System (ETCS) will subsequently monitor and control rail traffic. The components will be manufactured in the Siemens plants in Budapest, Wallisellen (Switzerland), and Braunschweig. The systems are scheduled for commissioning in 2013.

As member of a consortium of companies, ESTEL RA s.p.a., a joint venture between Algeria’s national railway operator (SNTF) and Siemens, has been given the order to supply and install signaling and telecommunication systems for the two railway lines to be built from Boughezoul to M’Sila and to Tissemsilt. The contract volume for Siemens amounts to 132 million euros. The customer is ANESRIF, the Algerian railway agency. Equipped with the European Train Control System ETCS Level 1, 16 electronic interlockings are scheduled for completion before the end of 2014. The project is part of a five-year plan that is aiming to economically revitalize the railway sector in Algeria and which envisages investments of around 20 billion US dollars up to the year 2014.

Siemens has formed a joint venture in Russia with its Russian partner Sinara Group to deliver regional trains. The new company Train Technologies has entered into an agreement on main terms for delivery of Desiro RUS electric trains with Russian Railways (RZD). The preliminary contract covers 240 trainsets comprising 1,200 railcars, with a total value of about EUR 2 billion. The underlying agreements were signed today during the Forum 1520 congress in Sochi by RZD President Vladimir Yakunin, Hans-Jörg Grundmann, CEO of the Mobility Division of Siemens, and Dimitry Pumpyanski, CEO of the Sinara Group. Final contract details will be agreed during the following negotiations.
