telent to deliver retail communications for a new ticket hall at Stratford International Station for Westfield

telent, the technology services company, has been awarded a contract by Westfield to design, install and commission the retail communications for the new northern ticket hall at Stratford International Station which is being built as part of the £1.45bn Westfield Stratford City.

The new ticket hall will form an integral part of the larger retail and leisure development, Westfield Stratford City, which will be the gateway to the Olympic Park and will provide access to Stratford’s major transport interchanges for the Network Rail, London Underground and Docklands Light Rail as well as international rail links. Westfield Stratford City forms part of the wider regeneration of east London and the infrastructure is a crucial component of the master plan.

Under the contract, telent will design, install and commission retail communication devices such as CCTV cameras, Public Address (PA) systems, Passenger Help Points (PHPs), induction loops and clocks. These will all interface into Stratford International Station’s SCADA system which staff will use to monitor and control the Station’s communications assets via telent’s station management system, MICA.

Once this contract has been delivered, Westfield will hand over the northern ticket hall to London Underground to operate. Ongoing maintenance of the communication devices will be carried out by telent under its existing Whole Life Station Communications contract with Tubes Lines.

Keith Whitmore, Head of Design and Construction at Westfield UK said: “We have selected telent as they demonstrated they have the knowledge, skills and resources necessary to work with us to deliver this key element of Westfield Stratford City.”

Commenting on the award, Adrian Groves, General Manager Metro at telent, said: “We are extremely pleased to have been awarded this contract. Whilst it is a ‘business as usual’ project for us it does have the added cachet that, in 2012, literally countless people will pass through the transport interchange into the shopping centre and beyond, all of whom will benefit from our works.”
