After the successful completion of a one-year trial with equipment tested, DB Cargo is currently completing installation of the ROCM systems across a locomotive fleet.

Nomad’s ROCM systems will be installed across a DB Cargo fleet of 90 locomotives operating internationally, with completion targeted for the end of 2016. The ROCM provides access to real-time condition and diagnostic-based information across key operational systems to DB Cargo.

Mathias Thomas, DB Cargo’s Head of Asset and Technology Strategy, said: “According to its technology and innovation strategy, DB Cargo’s Asset Management and Technology Department drives digitisation of its rolling stock fleet aiming for an automated asset value chain. Thus until 2020 about 2,000 locomotives will provide data to DB Cargo’s “Asset Intelligence Centre”. Currently about 600 locomotives already deliver technical data from diagnostics systems as well as time series sensor data constantly. This system helps DB Cargo to enhance locomotive availability and fleet operations.”

As part of the agreement, Nomad will deliver both necessary customisation as well as developing future requirements for DB Cargo in a collaborative approach. The technology to deliver the ROCM tool is provided by Nomad Tech, the joint venture between Nomad Digital and EMEF (the Portuguese rolling stock maintenance company).

Andrew Taylor, Nomad Digital CEO and Chairman of Nomad Tech, said “Our priority has been to build up a strong relationship with DB Cargo after an initial one-year trial period, refining our offer to ensure this technology provides all the information needed, enabling DB Cargo to make fully informed decisions about its fleet maintenance. We are developing the ROCM market in key global territories, building on our network of strong customer relationships.”
