Stockholm County Council (SL) has commissioned Stadler to supply 22 X15P EMUs for operation on the Roslagsbanan which connects Stockholm city centre with northeast localities.

Stockholm County Council (SL) has commissioned Stadler to supply 22 X15P EMUs for operation on the Roslagsbanan which connects Stockholm city centre with northeast localities.

In a contract worth approximately SEK 2 billion, Stadler will supply 22 three-car EMUs of the X15P type, for operation on Stockholm’s 65km Roslagsbanan. The first delivery is scheduled for 2020 with the new vehicles entering operation in 2021.

Other bidders in the tender process included Bombardier Transportation, Vossloh, CAF and PESA. The winning bid was determined by balance of price and quality.

“The investment in new trains are absolutely necessary for us in the future to be able to run more frequent services on the track,” says Caroline Jensen, CEO of SL. “We have had good competition in the procurement process and are satisfied with the result.”

The new 60-metre long trains will consist of three cars and accommodate up to 300 passengers – 150 seated and 150 standing. The X15P EMUs will be able to travel at a maximum speed of 100 km/h.

According to SL, the trains have been designed with accessibility in mind with increase space for passengers with wheelchairs, strollers and bicycles.
