Czech Railways has announced it will be gradually introducing two modern coach types on international routes starting with the line from Prague to Hamburg.

Czech Railways has announced it will be gradually introducing two modern coach types on international routes starting with the line from Prague to Hamburg.

The two wagon types introduced on international routes will offer increased comfort for passengers including wheelchair users. Each coach will be fully air conditioned providing a special section for passengers with children, including provisions for strollers and further space for bicycles. Initially, the upgraded coaches will be introduced on the Prague – Usti nad Labem – Decin – Berlin – Hamburg – Kiel route.

Upgraded Czech Railways coaches equipped with charging points for electronic devices

The nine Bhmpz 228 coaches can host 61 passengers in either a double one behind the other seating arrangement with airline style folding tables, or seats facing one another supplemented with a larger table with folding wings. Each seating area is equipped with a 230V power outlet and USB port for electronic devices. In addition, passengers will be able to make use of the on-board WiFi and kept up-to-date on the progress of their journey thanks to an audio-visual information system via LCD screens situated within the compartment and boarding area.

The carriages also provide a spacious area with two folding seats allowing two wheelchair users ease of access. Furthermore, the compartment offers a wide corridor with an accessible toilet.

A further nine Bdmpz 227 coaches will be introduced, offering passengers 72 padded adjustable seats. These upgraded coaches will also offer space to store 8 bicycles, at-seat tables with electrical power outlets, WiFi connection and an upgraded air conditioning system.

The wagons are being gradually introduced on EuroCity connections including the Prague – Usti nad Labem – Decin – Berlin – Hamburg – Kiel route.
