Two Kiss double-deck Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) have entered service in Georgia as part of a contract between rolling stock manufacturer Stadler and operator Georgian Railway.

Georgian Railway begins operation of Stadler Kiss double-deck EMUs

On 22 July 2016, two Stadler Kiss double-deck EMUs entered service with Georgian Railway during a ceremony marking the occasion at Batumi Station in Georgia. The vehicles will connect the Georgian Capital Tbilisi with Ureki, Kobuleti and Batumi resorts on the Black Sea.

“It is a new stage in the history of the Georgian railway. The Georgian railway continues the implementation of a new strategy, an integration in a global transportation logistic network. I’d like to take an opportunity and thank everyone who has brought an active contribution in this noble initiative,” said Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the JSC Georgian railway Konstantin Guntsadze.

Delivery forms part of a €40m contract between Georgian Railway and Stadler

The recent delivery forms part of a €40 million contract signed between JSC Georgian Railway and Stadler in May 2016, for the supply of four Kiss double-deck vehicles.

According to the Director General and the executive Vice-president of the Stadler Altenrhein AG Markus Zauyerbrukh, the company is very proud to deliver these four trains to Georgia and it was delighted to have supplied trains with high technology and advanced design.
