Russian Railways participate in heads of European railways summit

JSC Russian Railways President Oleg Belozerov has taken part in a summit which brought together heads of European railways.
The summit, which took place in Lugano, Switzerland, highlighted prospects for developing the international rail market. In particular, participants talked about the potential for the digital development of transport systems and the application of new technologies for business development.
Issues surrounding cybersecurity of railway-control systems were also flagged up alongside the harmonisation of technical standards, the introduction of a unified CIM/SMGS consignment note, and the environmental responsibility of railway companies.
Cooperation on the digital development of transport systems
The summit included a working meeting between Russian Railways President Oleg Belozerov, CEO of Italian State Railways Renato Mazzoncini, and Chairman of the Board and CEO of Deutsche Bahn Rüdiger Grube. During the meeting they discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation and interaction within the framework of the International Union of Railways, which is chaired by the president of JSC Russian Railways.
Mr Belozerov also took part in the opening ceremony of the Gotthard Base Tunnel. The tunnel is located on the railway section that links Switzerland and Italy, and is not only the longest, but also the deepest rail tunnel in the world. Its length is 52 km and reaches a depth of 2.3 km.
