Northern Rail has announced it is to invest £264,000 in new Customer Information Screens (CIS) at stations across Cheshire.

The investment by Northern Rail, a Serco and Abellio joint venture, will allow passengers to benefit from new screens providing up-to-the-minute train running information. According to Northern Rail, the installation is part of a wider £3 million project that will see 140 stations across the north of England equipped with the new technology.

Two of the stations to get new screens are Lostock Gralam and Cuddington which have been funded by Cheshire West and Chester Council. Working in partnership Northern and the council installed the new screens and othe r station improvements.

Cllr Brian Clarke, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure at Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “Working in partnership with Northern Rail enables the council to add value and bring more improvements to Cheshire West stations. This means a better experience for Cheshire West residents using the Mid Cheshire Line.”

Natalie Loughborough, Customer Service Director for Northern Rail, comments: “We listen carefully to our customers’ feedback and we know they value real-time travel information. The new Customer Information Screens will keep people up-to-date with information about arrival and departure times as well as station calling points along the route.

“The launch of these Customer Information Screens demonstrates our commitment to investing in communication channels at our smaller stations. These are just some of the screens that have been installed at 140 locations across the North in 2015.”

    Just like to say that Infotec, a British company based in Leicestershire, designed, tested and manufactured these displays specifically for the project.

    This shows that the UK can still engineer and manufacture quality equipment at the right price.
