The Norwegian State Railways NSB have appointed HaCon to provide a HAFAS-based journey planner for all of Norway

At the turn of the year, the Norwegian State Railways NSB and HaCon signed the contract for a new timetable information system. The intermodal door-to-door journey planner HAFAS competed successfully against numerous other systems in the Europe-wide tender procedure.
Soon, HAFAS will provide travelers in Norway with all relevant information on their journey via the essential distribution channels and output media. The integration of real-time data guarantees up-to-the-minute information on potential delays as well as on alternative connections. The journey planner will also indicate the actual seat occupation and wagon order.
“Whether the railway traffic runs as planned or there are planned or unplanned disturbances, we want to inform our passengers about the status and their travel options,” explained Peter Hausken, ICT manager for operations at NSB. “The aim is to offer good transport solutions with premium information systems for the customers at all times. HaCon delivers high-quality software systems from one single source, enabling us to provide both a consistent communication of our timetable data as well as individual and customized information for each and every passenger.”
For Stephan Sünderkamp, Head of Division HAFAS Internet, the NSB’s confidence is an acknowledgement of HaCon’s previous projects in Norway: “For several years now, our successful HAFAS apps Flytoget for the Oslo airport shuttle and the NRI’s rutebok.no have been popular travel companions in Norway.” Also, the entire Norwegian railway infrastructure is planned with software from Hannover: The national railway authority Jernbaneverket (JBV) uses HaCon’s Train Planning System TPS to manage all timetables and route enquiries in passenger and freight transportation.
