Balfour Beatty awarded £37 million west coast supply upgrade contract

Balfour Beatty has been awarded the Electrical Distribution works of Phase 3a of the West Coast Power Supply Upgrade project to undertake the power upgrade design, supply, installation and commissioning of nine new 25-0-25 kV Auto-transformer (AT) substations between Kings Langley, M25 area in the South, to Whitmore near Crewe in the North, associated OHLE works and traction power feeder cabling.
In addition, the contract includes the commissioning into full AT service of fourteen existing AT ready substations and disconnection/conversion of redundant equipment at seventeen existing traction supply buildings.
The project will be delivered by a Joint Venture of Balfour Beatty Rail and Balfour Beatty Engineering Services.
